But sifting endlessly through the 500k+ apps available in the Android Market or on iTunes to find a diamond in the rough that will really make your life or business better isn’t anybody’s idea of a good time – it can be just as frustrating as searching for a home.

To help you out, we’ve got a list of some new apps that have game-changing potential.

AirDroid

AirDroid lets you do everything on your Android phone without even touching it. From your web browser you can send text messages, organize files, photos, and videos, install apps, and more! Originally released late last year, AirDroid’s latest update includes a completely overhauled home screen and browser interface, the ability to stream video, and more. Best of all, it’s free!

Clueful

Clueful lets you see what your apps are doing behind the scenes and lets you know which ones track your location, read your address book, send your credentials unencrypted over the web, or keep GPS running in the background and needlessly drain your battery. If you’re an app power-user and are concerned about safety, the $3.99 isn’t much to pay for peace of mind.

Available for iPhone

Lookout Ad Network Detector

As mobile usage increases, advertisers are getting more creative and aggressive – particularly on Android devices where ads can be displayed outside of applications. If you’re a victim of unwanted ads, this free app will identify the culprit so you can uninstall. Like Clueful, it also gives you insight into what information ad networks are gathering from your phone.
